ESSENTIAL OILS IN NATURAL COSMETICS

Essential oils are the 100% essence of the plant. They are obtained by distillation or purging of flowers, fruits, seeds, stems and leaves. Most natural cosmetics lovers believe there is no cream without essential oils, probably because essential oils enhance the properties and performance of the preparation, provide a pleasant smell but additionally preserve the preparation. But like any natural preparation - they have a certain power - and they need to be smart and carefully dosed.

Essential oils, with the exception of lavender and teacup, are not recommended to be applied directly to the skin because they can irritate or cause an allergy due to their high concentrations. Essential oils are usually combined with carriers  (base oil, butter, beeswax, flower water, lanolin, vinegar, etc.) that dilute them. If you are prone to allergies, it is best to use the essential oil first to slash on the forearm and wait for 24 hours. If there is no skin reaction, the oil is safe to use. Just to avoid allergies, always use essential oils of proven quality from being breeding. If the bottle is damaged or the ethereal oil has a strange and unusual odor, it is likely that the expiration date is expire. Also, strictly follow the instructions that need to be written on the bottle - life span, Latin name, country of origin, chemotype (main chemical ingredient of essential oil), method of obtaining and breeding, part of the plant from which it was obtained oil and LOT number (procurement systematization).

Essential oils that contain a large number of phenols or ketones, such as thyme, oregano, clover, scallops, anis seed, oranges, ordinary sage, mint, paprika and rosemary, may irritate the skin at higher concentrations. Essential oils, especially those obtained from citrus fruits such as bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, orange or essential oils such as angels, ginger and cumin are phototoxic - in contact with UV rays they may irritate the skin. So it is best if you apply this oil to your skin in cream, lotion or massage oil, avoiding the sun for the best 12 hours. Essential oils that are most commonly cause allergy - cinnamon (bark and leaf), clove (bud, stalk and leaf), chamomile (roman and german) and melissa - should be avoided at high concentrations.
